ABSTRACT
Background: Physical activity level (PAL) is a crucial lifestyle behaviour that can potentially reduce mortality, and its impact varies across ethnicities. It is an extrinsic behaviour that directly influences intrinsic health parameters.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional and prospective study included 625 participants from various ethnic backgrounds. Data on anthropometric, lipid parameters, and fasting blood glucose, emphasising ethnic differences, were collected, focusing on the youth in North 24 Parganas.
Results: The study found a significant inverse correlation between PAL and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. PAL and ethnicity were key factors in addressing cardiovascular health (p<0.01), with significant differences in CVD risk between low and high PAL.
Discussion: PAL was significantly associated with specific lipid parameters and played a major role in determining lipid variables across ethnicities. Sex-specific interventions are needed because studies reported that females are notably inactive. PAL interventions are essential for addressing CVD outcomes.
