ABSTRACT People express their faith and commitment to God through various ways, and giving is an important way of showing it. This giving can be in the form of material and non-material aspects. This paper uses Exchange Theory to explain the issues involved in religious giving; the motivation to give, the manner of giving, and its consequences. Data were collected from five different churches with 102 participants through purposive sampling. This paper provides a general causal mechanism predicted to explain religious giving and other measures of religious commitment.
